Street Art Storage (SAKh) and the Ruarts Gallery, together with Inloco, announce the exhibition ‘13’, which will open on 5 April and last until 10 May. The show will feature works by 13 ‘street wave’ artists. Each of them has gone from street art to institutional recognition, while still maintaining connection with their origins. At the SAKh exhibition visitors can see works from the storerooms of one of the oldest galleries in Moscow, created in a variety of techniques: painting, graphics, assemblage, collage and carving. Moreover the project will represent a cross-section of Moscow ‘street wave’ art, presented in a St. Petersburg art institution.
Ilya Slak, Petro, Kirill Ashastin and Nazar ISSUE explore form and color, making compositions that reinterpret a familiar space. Alexey Luka and Ivan Ninety work with found materials and transform them into new meanings. The artist Egor Giwe actively uses rhinestones in his works, not only in the urban space, but also on canvases, tapestries, porcelain and Zhostovo trays, poeticizing street life. 0331s and Grisha tell stories through graphics that begin on the walls and ceilings of abandoned buildings and continue in the viewer’s imagination. Alexey Partola has been examining graffiti culture for more than 10 years in the ‘Wall Elements’ project, at the same time acting as a prominent participant in this movement. The artist Nootk’s style combines the influence of street culture with interests in illustration and animation. Marat Morik and Dmitry Aské are names widely known outside the street art community and have already gained international recognition as muralists.
Collaboration with Ruarts highlights the importance of these artists in the context of contemporary art. For them the gallery goes beyond a simple exhibition space; it becomes a platform for dialogue between street freedom and the reflection of institutional art.
The exhibition is taking place at the Street Art Storage space in St. Petersburg.
