Vladimir Glynin is focused on several topics which he works with over the last years: relationship between people, visible and imaginary, innocence and vulnerability as a dualism of our world. The artist compares these concepts by examining each of them.
The main characters of Glynin’s project are traditionally ballet dancers. First of all they demonstrate the potential of body plasticity, how it may be subservient and expressive in contest of the task. Сontrasting to the works of Yves Klein, the founder of anthropometrical painting by using human bodies, Glynin‘s images have the tense pattern of a dance. Despite the fact that Glynin works with color photography, contrast of black and white dominates in his pictures. The absence of half-tones gives the image sharpness and even rigidity; the expression is achieved through a "pastose" physicality often impersonal. In addition to photography series Gravity includes non-traditional for Glynin canvases, which weren’t originally intended for exhibiting. They were used as canvases on which the shooting process occurred. In the exhibition they are presented as an artistic artifact, a self-contained document of creative process.
The exhibition also includes works from the series Cubes in which Glynin used the multiple exposure technique. Taking pictures of real things, such as architecture or object, and transforming them using multiple exposure without digital processing, the artist achieves their loss of function. So Glynin creates his own reality from the visual "fragments" of the present. The main idea of the project is in the method of combining two cropped separate images that create the illusion of a single form. Two different forms make a third while remaining self-sufficient and independent.
Glynin’s technical experiment in photography refers to global ideas – from human relationship to the basics of genetic engineering. That is why for Glynin all objects, figurative or abstract, are equal in this meaning.
Vladimir Glynin has started his career as a photographer in 1995 while working as a dancer at the Bolshoi Theatre. Later on Vladimir started cooperating with magazines such as L'Officiel, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Elle, In Style, Mercury, Icons, GQ etc. At the peak of his career as a fashion photographer Glynin steps aside from fashion industry and devoted himself to art. Followed by comprehension of the avant-garde heritage (the project "Re-constructivism "), Vladimir concentrated on working with abstraction. Creating his abstract photography Vladimir often uses multiple exposure technique that beholders take as a digital effect.
His works have been exhibited in London, Zurich and Moscow (Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts). Vladimir Glynin is a member of the Russian Union of Artists. He has been awarded the Silver Wreath (2003, Best Young Photographer nomination) and the Astra award (2006, Photographer of the Year nomination). Vladimir is an author of two books: “Vladimir Spivakov. All About Music” and “Re-constructivism”.

Starting from April 6th as a part of the XI international festival "Photobiennale 2016" a new solo exhibition Gravity by Vladimir Glynin opens at RuArts gallery with the support of Rehab Life and Champagne house Ruinart.
