Ruarts Gallery is proud to announce that from December 15 till January 21 we are exhibiting “Introspection” by Riccardo Murelli - one of the most interesting exponents of contemporary Italian art.
The artist's works will be presented by the Gallery Ruarts, Moscow, for the first time with a solo exhibition titled “Introspection” ("Introspettica"), under the cultural exchange program of the year Italy-Russia with the support of the Italian Institute of culture in Moscow. The exhibition will be composed of oil papers, a series of engravings of medium and large format, stainless steel sculptures and a site-specific project specially built on the spot in Siberian larch wood.

Especially for the exhibition, Ludovica Lumer, who is among the most important scholars of neuroscience and its application to Visual Arts, devotes her article to Murelli’s opera. Solo exhibition by Riccardo Murelli at Ruarts gallery will be not only a demonstration of the deep cultural ties between the two countries, but also the presentation of contemporary art view, originating from the traditions of classical and avant-garde art in Italy and Russia.
From 2003 Murelli has been working on “Introspective structures”, which became his first big series. From 2007 he has focused his research and activities mostly on the implementation of his sites and specific projects while continuing research in drawing and engraving. Architecture’s desire of 2007 was part of the exhibition art in the Museum Guido Calori in San Gemini -Terni, where he placed his geometries within strings in a cloister.
In 2008, Tensions in TRAleVOLTE cultural association in Rome, where he created a sculpture on seven meters that permeated and dividing the space of a barrel vault. In 2009, International Container Art Festival organized by Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts of Taiwan, project entitled Introspective Trade where he has sectioned into two asymmetric parts a 12 m containers by placing inside the geometrical structures in iron and lined the walls with mirrors so as to create a path where visitors reflected inside. Many collaborations with design firms such as Molteni&C, Natuzzi, Minotti creating sets in collaboration with filmmakers, and studying how to incorporate sculpture into architecture with architects.
In 2010, he built Unlimited sculpture of three meters in cor-ten steel for the international exhibition of art Open Atelier in Orvieto and a new sculpture series Unlimited for the Fondation Charles Donwahi in Abidjan In Ivory Coast, Africa. He has just finished installing in a collection of Cap Ferrat on the Cote d'Azur two large sculptures for the new series Elliptical. In 2011, he is working on a project for one of the venues of the 54 Venice Biennale, a large public sculpture in Shanghai and a solo exhibition in a Museum in Taiwan. Sculptor and philosopher names among his first teachers the Italian sculptor, creator of Futurism, Umberto Boccioni and the Russian Constructivists. The work of such avant-garde artists as Vladimir Tatlin and Alexander Rodchenko gave Murelli an understanding of the importance of interaction his works of art with its surrounding space. Works of Riccardo Murelli are represented at art galleries in Italy, Holland, China, private collections in Europe and the USA.
