Vita Buivid was born in 1962 in Dnepropetrovsk (Ukraine). In 1988, the artist graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk State University, the philology faculty. She moved to Leningrad in the late 1980s. In the 1990s, Buivid received a grant from the Rutgers University (New York). In the USA, she became interested in fashion photography; upon her return to Russia, she collaborated with glossy magazines. Vita Buivid has been a photo director and a columnist for the Russian Pioneer magazine since 2009. In her artistic practice, Vita Buivid appeals to the topic of family relations, and she uses the feminist idea of transforming the personal into political and public. In 2016, with the support of Ruarts Foundation, MMOMA hosted a Vita Buivid’s personal exhibition My Love Is Not a Wisp of Smoke. The artist’s projects were nominated twice for the Kandinsky Prize; in 2017, a personal exhibition at MMOMA was shortlisted in the Project of the Year nomination. In 1988, the artist graduated from Dutch Art Institute/ ArtEZ University of Arts. Lives and works in Moscow and Amsterdam.
