Biography

Egor Giwe was born in 1986 in Moscow. Giwe explores topical issues of contemporary social anthropology in his artistic practice, focusing on the themes of identity, imitation, copying, and the influence of Internet culture on society. Since the early 2000s, Giwe has been actively engaged in photo and video documentation of human life both online and offline. Results of his observations were first presented in the book "Film Flix" in 2016 (republished in 2020) and in the film "Megamix" in 2018. Thanks to his mathematical education in the field of systems analysis, anthropological research is regularly reflected in personal exhibition projects. In the process of studying modern trends, Giwe created the image of the "average man", which he depicts using rhinestones on common interior items such as tapestries, Zhostovo trays and porcelain. His works emphasize the influence of the external environment on the "average man", as well as the object of research on the subject - the author himself. He took part in exhibition projects of the Museum of Moscow, the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall (St. Petersburg), and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. He began using rhinestones as part of his artistic language long before it became a fashion trend. In 2021, he had a solo exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts. In 2023, a major solo exhibition project "With Love" was held at the Ruarts Gallery. He is a participant in the Erring Office residency.
