Biography
Vitaly Chistyakov is a member of the New Urban Artists association from Saint Petersburg. The creative path of Vitaly Chistyakov began in a rehabilitation centre on the outskirts of Saint Petersburg, where he discovered oil pastel. Expressive graphics, to which he devotes all his time, became the hallmark of the artist. In 2018, Vitaly was noticed by the curators of the New Urban Artists studio, and he became part of the community of self-taught artists that the studio looks for and finds in various social institutions. After Vitaly had been given the opportunity to use professional materials, he began to paint. The objects of his research are items surrounding him. The first exhibition of Vitaly Chistyakov was held in 2019 at the Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Centre, where he participated in a group exhibition of New Urban Artists called “Orgalites”. In 2020, the second group exhibition of the New Urban Artists was held at the ROSIZO State Museum and Exhibition Centre in Moscow. In the summer of 2021, the first solo exhibition of Vitaly Chistyakov was held in Saint Petersburg at the Navicula Artis Gallery. The solo exhibition “Pure Objects” at the Ruarts Gallery in 2022 perfectly represents the work of Vitaly Chistyakov. “By combining shapes, choosing pure, powerful-sounding colours, Vitaly Chistyakov manages to create some works with a certain original nature of things, in their essential, original shape. The artists of the Russian avant-garde and abstract expressionism aspired to such purity and power of generalization. Art itself is thundering, by the language of shapes, born easily and freely, reveals itself” – writes about Vitaly Chistyakov's work an art critic from Saint Petersburg Gleb Ershov, the curator of his first solo exhibition.
