Biography
Misha Buryj is a Russian multidisciplinary artist. He works with sculpture, assemblages, painting, and installation. Misha creates his works from found materials and the waste from advertising production (scraps of paper or cardboard, pieces of plastic and plywood, surplus printing, or construction processes), thereby touching on issues of consumption and mass production culture, as well as the problems of ecology and the overabundance of information in the modern world. Born in Izhevsk in 1986. He graduated from the Naberezhnye Chelny Art College in 2008, and from the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in 2014. Misha Buryj has participated in several group exhibitions in Russia and Europe. In 2016 Misha Buryj’s work was included in the main project ‘Invisible Wall’ at Artmossphere, the 2nd Street Wave Art Biennale. His first exhibition took place at the Ruarts Gallery in 2017. In 2019 Misha became a resident of the Open Studios at the Winzavod Centre for Contemporary Art. He became a member of the Garage Museum’s Workshops and Art Residences programme and the Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art in 2020. Misha Buryj was declared the winner of the Ruinart Art Patronat competition in 2021. In 2022, his solo exhibition "AUTARCHY" was held at the Ruarts Gallery. In 2022 he presented the Circulation Project in frame of a collaborative project ARCA by the Ruarts Foundation and MMOMA.
