Misha Buryj
Mikhail Buryj

Mikhail Buryj was born in 1986 in the city of Izhevsk, Russia. In 2008 he graduated from the Naberezhnye Chelny Art College specializing in design. From 2008 to 2014 he studied in the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, where his specialty was “animation and computer film art”. Buryj’s creative method is based on collecting and rethinking, and requires an elegant touch, inventive combination and complex manipulation – techniques that fuse to form sculptures and assemblages that are seemingly chaotic but eventually quite complete and consistent. Perhaps in the light of global overproduction and the apparent meaninglessness of creating anything from scratch, this tactic is the most apt insofar as it is best able to meet the problematic of our time. Along with practices of a classical artist – drawing and constructing – Buryj’s creative process also includes sculpture and weaving, acting as a shaman or a neo-savage, maybe even identifying himself with an animal or a forester making a nest. Mikhail Buryj lives and works in Moscow.
